Snow crunching under your boots.  Savoury scents tempting you to taste.  The sweet taste of liquid gold sipped from a glass made of freshly carved ice.  The Niagara-on-the-Lake Icewine Festival will engage all of your senses during this celebration of all things Icewine.  It doesn’t matter if you are an wine enthusiast or a cocktail fan, a foodie or a music lover; there’s sure to be an event that speaks to your passion while offering an unforgettable Icewine experience.

GET SCHOOLED IN COOL: A TASTING WITH CANADA’S ICEWINE INSIDERS
JANUARY 14/15, 21/22, 28 AT 1 PM & 3 PM

Meet the men and women behind Niagara-on-the-Lake’s finest Icewines.  Each in-depth tasting in this series is hosted by a gifted Icewinemaker who will lead you through a sampling of at least four of their perfectly sweet Icewines.  In addition to leading the tastings, Icewinemakers will be on hand to answer any questions you may have about this unique product.  Take advantage of this opportunity to learn more from some of Canada’s leading Icewine insiders.  Admission is $20 per person.  Space is limited.  Please call the individual wineries to book your spot.

ICEWINE, MUSIC & THE GREAT OUTDOORS
JANUARY 14 FROM 2 PM TO 4 PM, JACKSON-TRIGGS

In 2010, the Juno award-winning Arkells were propelled into the international music spotlight.  They went on to play with bands like Metric and Pearl Jam, as well as win The Canadian Music Week Indie Award for ‘Favourite Live Artist/Group’ and Canadian Radio Music Award for ‘FACTOR Breakthrough Artist’.  In 2012 they’ll be heating up the vineyard when they rock the outdoor amphitheatre at Jackson-Triggs Estate Winery.  Admission is $25 per person (including an Icewine toque and donation to the Red Roof Retreat).  

NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE ICEWINE VILLAGE

DOWNTOWN NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE

Niagara-on-the-Lake’s historic Queen Street transforms into a winter wonderland as the town comes together to play their part in wine country’s annual Icewine celebration.  Set to the soundtrack of Canadian Jazz, the Icewine will flow as the 28 Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake pour liquid gold.  The renowned Signature Kitchen Chefs will tempt your palate with Icewine-inspired culinary creations.  Watch talented artists turn blocks of ice into sparkling sculptures and when it is time to warm up, pop into one of Queen Street’s cozy shops.  Admission is free.

FLASH & PANACHE: ICEWINE COCKTAIL COMPETITION
JANUARY 21 FROM 9 PM TO 11 PM, DOWNTOWN NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE

Shaken, stirred, muddled or mixed; when the mavericks of the Niagara-on-the-Lake cocktail scene incorporate Icewine into their repertoire magical things happen.  In a nod to the versatility of Icewine some of Icewine country’s most celebrated mixologists will shake things up as they compete to create Niagara-on-the-Lake’s best Icewine cocktail.  As the judges take on the task of awarding top honours, you’ll have the opportunity to sample the Icewine cocktails and sample creative food pairings served up by local restaurants.  Canada’s culinary capital will be burning up as these one-of-a-kind Icewine cocktails are served up with a healthy does of flash and panache.  Presented by Signature Kitchen Chefs.  Admission is free.

WINEMAKERS ON ICE: OUTDOOR HOCKEY CLASSIC
JANUARY 28 FROM 2 PM TO 4 PM, RAVINE VINEYARD 

Cheer on the Icewinemakers of Niagara-on-the-Lake as they take to the outdoor rink at Ravine.  This outdoor hockey showdown will see our skilled Icewinemakers trade in their wineglasses for hockey sticks to vie for Niagara’s first Icewine Cup.  In addition to a range of culinary delights available to fuel the fans in the stands, the Wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake will be on hand pouring a selection of vintages.  Admission is free.
